Lydia's Quilt for KayLee

Lydia had helped me with piecing and quilting for many years, but this is one of her earlier quilts for which she did the planning, and piecing of her own. I did work with her to teach her the techniques for the around the World Speed method.

J. T.'s baby quilt

Nursery Rhymes, and Cow's jumping over the moon are on this quilt for JT. It is hand quilted of warm flannel.

German Fabrics for German born Everett Mack

While visiting Rotenberg, Germany with Niki Hugo, we found a little fabric store with these beautiful woven plaid fabrics. I bought them. When Everett was expected, we knew she would be born in Germany. It was time to use the German fabric.
Lydia decided not to tell anyone the sex of the expected baby. I thought she would have a boy, so I made the quilt of the German fabrics. We went to Germany for the birth of the baby Everett, and to bring the older children home with us, in preparation of their transfer home to the US. So Everett's quilt is made from these beautiful German fabrics, and hand quilted. Everett was born on my birthday. Veterans Day. She was named after her two of her great grandfathers who were veterans of WWII. Mark Everett, her maternal Gr. Grandfather, and William Lauren Mack, her paternal Gr. Grandfather.

I made this quilt about the beginning of my 1930's reproduction fabrics phase. I am really enjoying the reproduction fabrics. The quilt is handquilted.

Pinwheels for Chase

This is a fun quilt. The binding is folded triangles. But the fun part is that the pinwheels are also constructed of folder pinwheels. They are three dimensional, and stick up from the quilt. The fabrics have colorful dinosaur figures.

All together I made 3 or 4 baby quilts from this pattern. I think one was for Everett Torgerson.

Not just quilts

While photographing the quilts at Lydia's house, there were other little handmade things from me. This pillow is an example of that.

Carrie made this Quilt for Lydia

Each Christmas for 6 years Carrie made a quilt for one of her siblings. She planned a pattern that was appropriate for them. For Lydia she made a quilt of many houses, each different. This represents the many houses she lived in on the many Army Posts where Brian has been stationed. In the corner is the block - Home is where the Army sends us. The pieced border and pieced stars in the sashings compliment this quilt.
